There is an urgent need for trained health professionals in Wau, the International Organization for Migration has said.

Thousands of people have been displaced in parts of Wau Town due to violence that started last week.

Some fled to the UNMISS base, at the Red Cross and some churches.

IOM says there are only two IOM clinics that are responding with life-saving care at the South Sudan Red Cross and Cathedral.

However, it says there is technical support being provided and referrals made to the UNMISS, Comboni Hospital, and the Wau Teaching Hospital.

It says tents for operational space and vaccines have been received and a joint mobile health team has deployed to Mboro, to treat cases of malaria and other diseases.

IOM also says IDPs are accessing safe drinking water at the UNMISS base after IOM and partners connected 54 taps.

IOM says partners are constructing latrines, bathing shelters and handwashing stands and a site for solid waste is being identified, and IOM is planning on deploying a mobile WASH team.
