The United Nations says some 50,000 people in Mundri are in need of humanitarian assistance.

Earlier, JMEC said members of its monitoring and verification team who visited the area recently found people starving to death. But state officials could not confirm the reports.

The Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, says delivery of assistance has been affected by insecurity.

Armed groups in the area have been clashing with the SPLA in the last few months.

Referring to reports by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Mr Farhan says partners are seeking assurances so that they can safely deliver assistance.

He says aid organizations are currently distributing essential household items and shelters for more than 17,000 vulnerable people in Mundri West County.

They include those whose properties were looted or burned in different clashes.

Mr. Haq made the remarks yesterday at the opening of Syrian Donors Conference IN London.
