A two-day dialogue forum between the media and the security sector is being held in Jonglei State capital, Bor.

There has been conflict between the media and security, according to rights watchdogs.

It aims at strengthening mutual understanding and good working relationship between the two bodies.

It brought together 48 participants – 13 journalists and 35 officers from the organized forces consisting of the Police, the National Security, and the SPLA.

The dialogue was officiated by the state Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Peter Wal Athiu.

He called upon the participants to come up with a mutual understanding to enable the media work freely in the country.

“I’m looking forward to this workshop….to come out with a much sure understanding so that the media can continue assuming its role in our efforts to build a better South Sudan,” Mr Athiu said.

The dialogue is under the theme:  “Strengthening Mutual Understanding on The Roles the Media and the Security Play in Nation Building.”

It is organized by the Association for Media Development in South Sudan in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
