At least 15 trucks of grain are destined for Rubkuai payam and Leer County, in Unity State, to be distributed to flood-affected populations in the area.

According to the state government, the aid convoy left Bentiu on Thursday, March 30, 2023.

“Unity State’ government has this morning dispatches more than 15 trucks loaded with food items to Rubkuay and Leer County. As part of a wider commitment to support families and Flood Displaced persons in Southern Unity,” says the statement.

It is not clear if the grain would be subsidized or distributed freely to the IDPs.

South Sudan is reeling from four consecutive years of flooding, with the disaster now affecting nine out of ten states, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.

In the state capital Bentiu, rising water levels threaten to flood camps for internally displaced people as well as a base for the UN Mission in South Sudan.
