The International Organization for Migration, IOM says it has vaccinated more than 70,000 IDPs against cholera at the UN camp in Bentiu, Unity.

The vaccination is being carried out by the IOM Rapid Response Teams to control the cholera outbreak in the country.

In a statement, the IOM says it is preparing to lead another campaign to vaccinate more than 30,000 IDPs at the UN PoC site in Malakal, Upper Nile, in the coming weeks.

It says it’s working with its humanitarian partners to provide curative care, technical training and medical supplies.

Ashley McLaughlin, IOM Representative in South Sudan, says the IOM medical professionals are also supporting the Juba Teaching hospital.

“We are providing technical training, so are WHO. But we’ve done a few things: we’ve done the cholera vaccination campaign in Bentiu, and we are providing support at the Juba Teaching Hospital cholera treatment center,” she said.

“And we also are supporting IMC at the PoC sight in Juba. We are planning cholera vaccination campaign in Malakal in the coming week”.

The government declared an outbreak of the disease last month. More than 1,000 cases, including 37 deaths have been reported, according to the Ministry of Health and WHO.
