At least five people have been killed and many others wounded after gunmen attacked a passenger bus at Ame Junction along the Juba-Nimule road this morning, a security official has said.

A security officer at the Nesitu Police Post told Eye Radio that the Friendship Bus was on its way to Kampala.

Charles Lemi Sebit says passengers have scattered into the bushes. The attackers looted the bus and escaped.

Mr Lemi says the five people include: 2 Somalis, 2 Ugandans, and a South Sudanese.

“This incident happened at 6:20 in the morning,” he said.

“We don’t know who the attackers are because some of the people say they are criminals and some say they are soldiers.”

Mr. Lemi says the bodies of the victims and the wounded have been taken to the Juba Teaching Hospital.

He said similar incidents happened around November and December every year. Several people were killed in the attacks. Vehicles were also set ablaze.
