The leader of the National Alliance of opposition political parties, Dr. Lam Akol, says Dr. Elia Lomoro cannot sign the peace agreement on behalf of the other political parties.

Dr. Elia Lomoro is the chairman of the Democratic Forum and also the minister for Cabinet Affairs.

The two leaders were participating in the peace process until they split last year.

The warring parties later signed the agreement in August without participation of the political parties.

Dr Lomoro told Eye Radio earlier that he was suitable to sign on behalf of the political parties so that the groups could join the implementation of the agreement.

However, Dr Akol told Eye Radio on Wednesday that Dr Lomoro has been represented by the President.

“You can’t have the first minister in the government signing on behalf of political parties when his boss, the president, signed on behalf of the government. This doesn’t make sense,” Dr Akol argued.

The IGAD Chief mediator, Seyoum Mesfin, is in the country to discuss with the two groups how they can be part of the peace process, by signing the peace agreement.

Mr. Mesfin was scheduled to meet the two leaders; Dr. Lam Akol and Dr. Elia Lomoro, on Wednesday evening.
