Two people were killed and two others wounded in a gunfire in Ezo County, Western Equatoria, on Wednesday night.

The dead include a female police officer and a soldier. The husband to the female police officer is also among the wounded.

The Commissioner of Ezo County, Lociano Bakimbe, says the shooting started when soldiers complained that two of their colleagues had gone missing from the barrack.

Mr Bakimbe told Eye Radio that the incident has caused fear among the civilians.

“Everybody is running away.  The town is now empty,” he told Eye Radio.

Officials could not confirm the fate of the two soldiers who were said to have been missing.

The SPLA spokesperson, Colonel Philip Aguer, told Eye Radio that he has no information about the incident.

The incident comes just a few days after local youth in Greater Mundri signed a peace agreement with the SPLA to stop hostilities.

The army also signed a similar but separate agreement with the arrow boys, a vigilante group formed in the area to help protect the communities against the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels.
