The Minister of Environment has banned the importation of plastic flowers to reduce pollution in the country.

Deng Deng Hoc says the order is also aimed at reducing risks of contracting diseases such as cancer.

He also prohibited smoking in public places. Mr. Hoc was speaking at the launch of Keep Juba Clean campaign yesterday.

“I want to also reiterate that businesses are banned from importing plastic flowers because we believe that real flowers are available and there is no need to import plastic flowers from abroad and increase the amount of plastic wastes in the country,” he stated.

Keep Juba clean campaign has started today.

More than 70 environment inspectors will be conducting the exercise in residential areas.
