A three-day training aimed at empowering women who will represent Yei County in the upcoming peace talks has commenced.

Women representatives are being selected all over the country to participate in the next round of talks which expected to commence after Ramadhan Holiday.

The talks are expected to take place after the Holy Month of Ramadhan.

The Executive Director of the Center for Democracy and Development, Eric Moses, says one woman will be selected to represent the county in Addis Ababa.

“There are issues that are to do with our own problems within the country and women are mostly affected,” Mr Moses said, “and we feel that if they [women] are involved, it could contribute to sustainable peace in South Sudan.

The Assistant Commissioner for Gender, Child and Social development, Victoria Nasirah, urged women to speak out their rights in regards to peace and equal participation.

“I would to tell our women that it’s our duty; let’s open our eyes, let’s talk on women rights so that the world can know that a woman has rights to work anywhere,” she told Eye Radio.

More than 40 women are attending the training which will end on Friday.
