The number of HIV/AIDs infection in Yei County has risen since the beginning of the year, health officials have said.

The coordinator for the county’s AIDs commission, Chris Issa, says over 3,000 patients have been recorded for treatment from January to date.

“From our treatment centre, we have 3,353 people who have been for treatment from the month of January,” Mr Issa said.

“About 1, 0358 are already on ARVs treatment. But least than 50% are adhering to treatment that means there is high defaulter rate.”

It’s not clear why there has been a rise in the HIV/AIDS infections in the area.

He says also cases of Tuberculosis are rising drastically.

Issa called on the National Ministry of Health to avail more funds for HIV/AIDs awareness and prevention.
