US condemns failure to strike a peace deal

Author : | Published: Monday, March 9, 2015

The United States has strongly condemned the failure by the warring parties in South Sudan to reach a peace agreement.

The State Department Deputy Spokeswoman, Marie Harf, says lack of political leadership to resolve the conflict has exacted a terrible cost over the past nearly 15 months.

In a statement, she said the United States will work closely with other partners to ensure the war in South Sudan is brought to an end.

Ms. Harf says the US looks forward to the UN Security Council’s planned review of the situation in South Sudan.

Earlier this week, the US presented resolutions to the council calling for the imposition of sanctions on individuals and entities that obstruct peace in the country.
