General David Yau Yau has dissolved his party, the South Sudan Democratic Movement-Cobra Faction and joined the SPLM.

The military wing of the party fought the government for three years until they signed a peace agreement in 2014.

General Yau Yau announced the dissolution of his party at the SPLM secretariat in Juba this afternoon.

He spoke to journalists at a press conference attended by about 10 of his military commanders and traditional leaders.

“We have come wholeheartedly as a group without leaving anyone behind. We are no longer calling ourselves SSDM/COBRA. We are fully SPLM members,” Gen Yau Yau told journalists at a press conference attended by about 10 of his military commanders and traditional leaders.

“So fully we are SPLM members, and we are SPLA, especially the military part.”

The Cobra Faction has been incorporated into the SPLA, under the peace agreement with the government.

The move comes a few days after the conclusion of the three day emergency national convention of the SPLM in Juba.

“Comrade David Yau Yau is here with all the political and military leaders who were there with him in the Cobra Faction. So we are all grateful,” said Antipas Nyok is the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs.
