Yambio residents march for peace

Author : | Published: Friday, June 19, 2015

Hundreds of people, including government officials, NGOs and church leaders marched this morning in Yambio town to campaign for peace in Mundri and Maridi Counties.

They came from all part of the town and walked to the main square, where they held prayers for peace.

The state government has declared the day a public holiday.

“People had a peaceful march and all were barefooted, including some of the high ranking officials in the church and in the government,” Paul Knight reported from Yambio.

The fighting in the two counties has brought some activities to a standstill. A vocational center in Maridi was closed down yesterday after a scuffle between two students escalated.
