A woman thought to be around 80 years old says she has been raped by a 24 year old man in Yambio County in Western Equatoria State.
She says the man came to her hut last Sunday night in Mokwondu refugee camp and threatened to kill her if she refused to sleep with him.
“He pushed me and I fell behind the bed. I could not breathe and he held tight my throat,” Mary (fake name) told Eye Radio at a health center in the camp.
The young man accused of the rape has denied any wrongdoing. He says the old woman invited him to her house.
“She was the one who called on me that let me give her cigarette and we sat and smoked with her and she brought alcohol of 2 pounds and we drunk it together,” the unnamed youth explained.
“She gave me a chair and as I was seated, I fell off the chair and she was even the one who told me to go and sleep in her house.
“At 3pm, I woke up and I told her that: ‘grandmother, I’m going’ and she said ‘ok’ and I went. That is all I know.”
Police are investigating the matter.
