The South Sudan Ambassador in Nairobi called on authorities in Kenya to speed up its investigations so those who set fire on South Sudanese siblings can be held accountable.

Last week, five South Sudanese citizens in Nakuru County were set ablaze by an angry mob, who accused them of seducing a neighbor.

Speaking to Eye Radio on Tuesday, South Sudan Ambassador to Kenya, Chol Ajongo described the attacks on four brothers as a premeditated act and a criminal that should be punished.

Ambassador Ajongo rejected Kenyan media reports that claimed the boys have sexually harassed the woman.

He said the act by the perpetrators doesn’t justify the killing.

“This attack was premeditated, is criminal and we expect full responsibility, somebody must be punished for this,” Ambassador Ajongo told Eye Radio.

“The narrative out is completely not true and doesn’t reflect the view of the victims, even if it’s to be true for the sake of argument it can’t justify killing. As we speak, three days down the line, there is no arrest, and this was a mob and it happened in the area.

“We would expect some investigation, somebody should be in, because this is a fatal and somebody has died and others in a critical situation.”

For his part, Andrew Kuol Agook, a representative in the South Sudan Embassy in Kenya said the incident occurred at Mawanga area in Nakuru on Friday night.

He said that the siblings were attacked when some residents in Nakuru mobilized to retaliate the beating of one of them by one of the siblings.

One of them, Garang Chol Ajang, 21 years old, succumbed to the fire injuries.

The three others, Akuien Chol Ajang, 24, Ajang Chol Ajang, 26, Bul Garang Bul, 28 and Guor Anya Guor are wounded.

Ajang Chol Ajang was angry at a Kenyan man who hit him after he picked a quarrel with a Kenyan woman who refused to pay back his cash balance.

Injured on his head, he went to the house and returned to beat the man.

This caused some Kenyan men to gang up who then attacked them in the house, setting them on fire.

Agook, a representative in the South Sudan Embassy in Kenya who visited the scene confirmed the incident to Eye Radio.

“Ajang went to buy something at the shop nearby. When he requested for his change, the lady refused and they started arguing. The lady insulted him and Ajang insulted him back,” Kuol told Eye Radio.

“When Ajang tried to leave, a guy called Jemo [attacker] dragged him and tried to strangle him and they beat him on the head with a stone.

“After Ajang saw the blood on his head he ran to the house and picked a stick and started fighting with Jemo [attacker] and that is how the fight started. There is nothing like sexual harassment.

“After they ran into the room. The Kenyan mobilized themselves and broke the windows and the doors of the room and broke in.

“When those of Ajang were trying to protect themselves with sticks, these people mobilized themselves and poured petrol on them and set them on fire. They got burnt and they were taken to the hospital when the police came.”

None of the perpetrators has been brought to book so far.
