Warrap govt raises hundreds of millions of pounds in fund-raising

The government of Warrap State has received financial pledges of more than $1.2 million, and  SSP 210 million in a fund-raising event held in Juba over the weekend for the construction of the State General Secretariate Office.

The event initiated by Governor Kuol Muor Muor also aimed to fund agricultural activities in the state.

At the weekend’s event, influential sons and daughters of the state and well-wishers pledged financial support ranging between 30 million pounds and a million dollars.

According to an official in the Office of the Governor, business tycoon, Kur Ajiing Ater donated $1 million, the highest contribution, to support the building of the Warrap State General Secretariat Office in the state capital, Kuajok.

He is followed by Makiir Gai Thiep and Bibi Ali, Chagai Muorwel who donated 100,000 US dollars each.

The First Lady of the Republic, Mary Ayen Mayatdit reportedly donated SSP 50 Million and Vice President Hussein offered SSP 30 Million.

Meanwhile, tycoon Lado Lukak donated $30, 000 to the Warrap State Gov’t to support the building of the Warrap State General Secretariat Office and state agriculture.

Others are Business tycoon and the founder of Wunkoc Construction Company Bak Mayen, tycoon Joseph Maroor Akol, and national Finance Minister Bak Barnaba Chol, pledging SSP 30 million each.

When contacted, Wath Atekdit, the Press Secretary in the Office of Warrap State Governor confirmed the fundraising saying the amount raised is more than $1.2 million and over SSP 200 million.

The funding support will be used to build an office for the governor and agriculture in the state.

“There is no general secretariat that has been built in Warrap, the governor’s office has been operating in the premises of the Cooperatives Department in the Ministry of Water for the last twelve years,” Atekdit said.

“The governor of Warrap State His Excellency Koul Mour Mour took the initiative to mobilize funds for the construction, and some will be used for the agriculture project in the state,” he said.

“Some even contributed in cash and some say they will bring their money within two weeks and some have paid today [Monday] and the amount was $1.2 million, and over SSP 200m million South Sudan pounds and 2,000 dollars was in cash.
