The Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba has reduced the tuition fees for students on private admission by 50 percent from the previous 100 percent increment.

Professor John Akec announces that medical students will only pay 300 dollars instead of 600 dollars.

From other private colleges, the tuition has been reduced from 400 dollars to 200 dollars for the whole year.

However, Professor Akec clarifies the tuition fees have been maintained for general admission, postgraduate programs, evening classes, and first-year students.

Other colleges that will still pay the 100 percent increment are the Schools of Education, Mathematics, Music, Arts, and Drama.

“We decided that the best fee had to be deducted by fifty percent. We did this in 2019 when we raised the fees eventually and reached a compromise of 50%, which means you meet in a middle way,” Akec told Eye Radio.

“A medical student second year up to six years was supposed to pay $600 plus the development fees but now they are going to pay $300 or the equivalent.”

“Most of our colleges like Agriculture are paying 400 dollars, we are slashing that down to $200 plus development fees to get your education good.”

The Vice-Chancellor further said the development fee will remain the same, with a 37 percent reduction due to the fundraising of last year.

In November last year, the university raised more than one million US dollars during the fundraising organized by Vice Chancellor Akec in Juba.
