President Salva Kiir says there are no enough jobs in the government to employ more than 3,000 fresh graduates from the University of Juba.

They graduated today in the first ceremony organized by the university since 2002.

President Salva Kiir, the University Chancellor, was the guest of honor at the graduation ceremony today.

He has urged the graduates to work in the private sector.

“I want to assure you the grandaunds that the positions in the government are very limited if any one of you thinks he or she will be appointed as the minister tomorrow then things will not go well for you,” President Kiir advised.

“I encourage you to work not only in the government but in the private sector so that you can use your talent to develop this nation.”

Some of the graduates say the will create their own jobs.

“I’m an agriculturalist,” said Juan Leju, College of Natural Resources, Department of Crop Production. “So, from here I have to go and farm.”

However, Ms Leju said the ongoing crisis is hindering farming in the country.

“As you have known, the country is undergoing war and it is food insecure. It is us who are supposed to cultivate so that we can secure food in the country. But right now the country is not at peace and agriculture needs a peaceful secure place.”

For his part, Guot Manyiel Guot, a law graduate, said he would like to ‘serve justice in South Sudan’.

“I will begin to practice law and then I will become a lawyer by profession. That is what I hope to achieve,” he added.

This is the 18th graduation and the first of its kind since independence in 2011.
