There is an outbreak of an unknown animal disease in Pibor County, authorities have said.

County Commissioner Joshua Konyi said a disease whose symptoms are similar to those of East Coast Fever has killed a large number of cattle.

He told Eye Radio that they don’t have medicine to treat the disease.

“The Murle depend on cows; the cattle are now dying in a large numbers from this unknown disease,” Mr Konyi told Eye Radio.

“We’ve reported this to the state headquarters but we haven’t received any response from the Veterinary doctors.”

Commissioner Konyi also said that the County farmers lack seeds for planting during this rainy season.

He said people have returned to Pibor as a result of the peace agreement signed between the government and David Yau Yau’s Cobra Faction.
