Ugandan bus drivers protest against relocation of city park

Author : | Published: Tuesday, March 3, 2015

Ugandan bus drivers are on strike, saying they should be returned to Customs Park for their operations.

The Central Equatoria State government relocated the park to Shirkat suburb last month in search for a bigger space.

The drivers have grounded their buses that were moving between Juba and Kampala.

The manager of Lol Company for transportation, Christopher Garang, said buses have not been moving between Juba and Kampala for the last three days.

“We are requesting the government to allow us to be operating within the center and the populated areas where everybody can get the access to reach the busses and to reach the station with low cost,” Mr Garang told Eye Radio.

Marcelino Rimondo, Director of Inland Port, which is managing public transport in Central Equatoria State has called on the drivers to be patient.

“Off course they have been taken there by the governor, Mayor and commissioner order, but my message for the drivers; let them be patient.

The strike has affected the market supplies and students who want to travel to Uganda.

The drivers say they will continue with the strike until the government responds to their demands.
