UN Secretary-General’s Humanitarian Envoy, Abdullah Al Matouq and the High Commissioner for Refugees, António Guterres, have discussed with Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir the situation of South Sudanese refugees in Sudan.

They discussed how the international community can strengthen its partnership with the Sudanese government to improve cooperation on humanitarian assistance across the country.

This includes assistance for South Sudan refugees in Sudan.

The U-N-H-C-R in Khartoum reported that more than 2,000 new refugees from South Sudan were registered in Sudan last week.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan in its latest weekly bulletin says the total number of South Sudanese refugees in Sudan has reached 102,695 people since December last year.

The agency says an average of 10,000 people arrive from South Sudan were arriving in Sudan each month.

It says if this trend continues, there may be over 120,000 refugees from South Sudan in Sudan by mid-December this year
