The Egyptian government announced on Thursday that they have offered a full scholarship to Joseph Obwony.

Obwony scored 95.1% in science subjects, making him the top student in the country at the time.

But since then, he could not enroll in the university of his dream due to financial constraints.

This year, he appealed to well-wishers through Eye Radio to come to his aid.

The Chinese government was the first to offer him a scholarship, but he turned it down for unknown reasons.

However, the Egyptian Counselor in Juba, Ahmed El-Bakeri announced on Thursday that his government approved a full scholarship to Obwony to study medicine in Cairo.

“Joseph has been approved to join Ain Shams University to study medicine. I heard Joseph’s story on Eye Radio, and he is trying to find a scholarship,” El-Bakeri said.

“The response of the political leadership in Egypt and gave him a full scholarship.”

Ahmed el-Bakeri pointed out that the Egyptian government awards 400 scholarships to South Sudanese students every year.

“Annually 400 scholarships are awarded to South Sudanese students to study postgraduate studies and Bachelor’s at Egyptian universities, and God willing, we will congratulate those who graduate.”

Reacting to the offer, Joseph Obwony thanks the government for the opportunity, describing it as a dream come true.

“At this moment, I can’t express myself. I am so happy at first place. I would like to thanks the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Sisi who granted me this nice opportunity to study medicine in university of Ain Shams,”

“I want also to thanks the Egyptian embassy in South Sudan for the hard work they have done, after hearing my story, they called me and give me helping hand,

“I will be traveling to Egypt to pursue my education. I would like to thank them for making my dream come true”.
