The Global Summit to end sexual violence in conflict areas has awarded a South Sudanese woman for her activist work on sexual violence in the country.

Elizabeth Angok, the regional Director of Mother and the Child Care Organization in the country, was nominated following her participation at the Wilton Park conference in 2012.

She is being awarded with an honorarium of 1,000 Sterling Pounds for her work in protection, prevention and securing health assistance and justice for victims of sexual violence in South Sudan.

Elizabeth Angok comes from Western Equatoria State.

β€œIt is an honor for our country so that we know our women also follow whatever is happening,” said Barnabas Marial, Foreign Affairs Minister, who led a government delegation to the summit last week.

β€œI think we should congratulate her for having been awarded. It is a great honor to our women.”

The global summit in London aimed at ending sexual violence in conflict regions in the world.
