Insecurity in Jonglei has increased child abduction and cattle raiding in Jonglei state, the deputy leader of the South Sudan Democratic Movement – Cobra faction – on political affairs has said.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Khalid Boutros blamed the increase in child abduction in greater Pibor on lack of law enforcement.

“In the absence of the authority and the law in any area, criminals always take the opportunity and misuse people’s properties,” he said.

There have been reports of child abduction in the state.

“We are saying that all this happened due to the absent and lack of law and law enforcements in our areas.”

Mr. Boutros said the Greater Pibor peace agreement must be implemented to end cattle raids and child abduction in the area.

Last month, the government and David Yau Yau’s Cobra – faction signed a peace deal in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, to end the bloodshed in Greater Pibor.
