The Sudanese government says it has sent 40 tons of food and non-food items to South Sudan as the country continues to experience unrest.

A plane carrying humanitarian aid landed in Juba on Tuesday.

The Sudanese Ambassador to South Sudan, Dr. Mutriff Siddig, told Eye Radio that Sudan is responding to the call from humanitarian agencies to support people who have been displaced by the violence between the government and the rebels led by Dr. Riek Machar.

Ambassador Siddig said Sudan sent 30 tons of food, five tons of medicine and five tons of clothes.

“Like many Sudanese friends, they decided to send some food items, some clothes and some medicine to IDPs who are affected by this crisis in Juba or outside Juba,” Ambassador Siddig said.

Ambassador Siddig also said that the Sudanese government is working together with IGAD countries to find a solution to the crisis in South Sudan.

“Sudan is one of the three countries selected to form a dialogue committee, headed by Kenyan General Lazarus Sumbeyo and Ethiopian Foreign Affairs Minister,” Ambassador Siddig added.

Sudan is expected to send more assistance to South Sudan to help more than 60,000 people who are now internally displaced all over the country.
