S Sudan refugees: Ireland offers over $2m in aid

The Republic of Ireland has announced more than $2 million in humanitarian assistance for South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

It says the funding will support the emergency humanitarian needs of South Sudanese Refugees in the West Nile region of Northern Uganda.

Ireland’s minister of State for the Diaspora and International Development, Mr Joe McHugh said $1.48 million will be provided to the World Food Program for emergency food assistance.

While about $96,000 for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees for the provision of water and sanitation and non-food items in the newly-opened refugee settlements in Uganda.

This funding brings Ireland’s humanitarian assistance for the South Sudan crisis to more than $11 million in 2016.
