The South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has declared its readiness for the general elections scheduled for December 2024.

According to the political alliance, the South Sudanese people are tired of transitions and eagerly want to exercise their right to vote for their preferred leaders.

“Our people are fed up with endless transitions and are yearning for elections to take place so that they can choose their leaders,” SSOA chairperson, Josephine Lagu said in a statement sent to Eye Radio newsroom.

She added: “Elections are a requirement of the revitalized peace agreement and failure to hold elections is a violation of the same.”

Josephine Lagu said failure to conduct elections would constitute a breach of the peace agreement.

The Alliance said it advocates for adherence to the outlined roadmap and urges all stakeholders to prioritize conducting the elections as scheduled.

It further calls for dialogue among the parties to the agreement to deliberate on how the transitional period can be peacefully ended in line with the agreed-upon terms.

Such dialogue, it argues, should aim to ensure a smooth and lawful transition of power.

The statement was published after SSOA leaders convened a meeting on Saturday, to decide their position regarding the upcoming elections scheduled for December 2024.
