A soldier detonated a hand grenade in public, killing himself and injuring two others in Western Bahr el Ghazal’s Jur River County, on November 12.

A health official said the military intelligence officer identified as Akol Madut Akec from the 5th Infantry Division succumbed to the grave injuries he sustained from the bomb blast.

Doctor Thon Mangok, the Director General of Wau Teaching Hospital said the combatant died at the health facility on Saturday night.

The wounded are receiving treatment at the hospital. Doctor Mangok said one of the injured is in critical condition.

“On Saturday, we received three people wounded in Nyinakok village, we have lost one of them, one is in critical condition and the other one is in good condition.”

The motive of the incident is unclear.

But Doctor Thon Mangok believed the deceased officer was drunk when he committed the act.
