Simon Kun reacts

The governor of Upper Nile State, Simon Kun, has cautioned those he says are calling for his removal to stop the campaign and focus on achieving peace.

Governor Kun says he was elected democratically and is ready to challenge any unlawful removal from office.

He was addressing more than 500 people who attended a gathering in Juba over the weekend to discuss a local peace initiative proposed by women.

“I know those people who are saying… ‘Yes, Simon Kun must be removed’. I know them, all of them, but I don’t want to talk much about that,” he told the gathering.

“There is nothing that will ever worry me; because I know I did nothing wrong. And If I know that I have committed a mistake, I would voluntarily resign; I wouldn’t want to be sacked.”

On his part, Jonglei state governor John Kong Nyuon, said people should focus on ending the war.

“What we are supposed to focus on is not about campaigning to remove people from their positions, that this person should be removed from his position because whoever wants to be made a minister, governor or deputy governor is wasting his time. Let’s just support our women to continue with spreading the message of peace,” he stated.
