Members of the committee –  formed by the President to negotiate peace with renegade David Yau-Yau  – say they are preparing to meet David Yau-Yau for peace talks.

The committee, led by religious leaders,  will meet Yau Yau after a request by President Salva Kiir to persuade Yau Yau to accept the amnesty granted to him.

President Salva Kiir has indicated that he is giving David Yau Yau the last chance to respond to his amnesty for peace.

Bishop Paride Taban , head of the peace committee,  told Eye Radio that the committee will meet Yau Yau in the coming days.

“Surely we are preparing, I think the process is going on we are talking, peace is not something which can be rushed,” he said  “I always risk my life to go for peace, is not an easy thing, but with God grace it is possible.”

Bishop Paride also said David Yau-Yau has denied carrying out any attack in Jonglei state for the last 3 months.

“We went to Yau-Yau, we ask him, who did that thing, he said he was not and his people had never done it, up to now they very peaceful, even they not make attacks since we started the work of negotiation talking to him, they never had even attacks with the SPLA, and he said he didn’t do that, and it is very difficult, the area is so large, that he himself cannot control all the area which is under the Pi-bor county, that is what said to us,” Bishop Paride said.

Two weeks ago, President Salva Kiir accused un-named senior people in Juba of encouraging David Yau Yau NOT to accept  the Presidential amnesty offered to all rebel groups.
