The government has apprehended several gunmen suspected of causing insecurity on some of the roads in the country, according to the minister of information.

Michael Makuei Lueth says the groups consist of both civilians and individuals from the security sector.

“Some of them are already arrested, some of them are soldiers and policemen and other regular forces,” Mr Makuei told reporters in Juba on Friday.

He says the unnamed suspects will face trial and be punished accordingly.

There have been attacks on the major roads from Juba in the recent months.

Last, month a bus heading to Kampala on the Nimule Highway was attacked by gunmen and five people were killed.

There also reports of attacks on the Juba-Yei and Juba-Kajo Keji roads.

However, the minister says most of the roads are now safe.

“But generally speaking, most of the bandits who have been attacking cars on the road have already disbanded and scattered,” he added.
