Rumbek schools reopen

Ten schools that were closed due to insecurity in the area last year have resumed learning activities.

The Director of Education in Rumbek Central County of Lakes State, Dr. William Koji, says the situation in the area is improving.

More than 500 people were reported to have been killed in inter-communal clashes in Lakes State last year.

Several conferences have been conducted in the area to bring peace among the communities.

Dr. Koji says the reopening of the ten schools will reduce overcrowding in the other functioning schools.

“Some of the schools in some payams which were closed down due to insecurity are now trying to come back to normal because communities within Rumbek are now in peaceful co-existence especially parts of Matangai and Amongpiny payams,” Dr Koji said.

He urged the community in Rumbek Central to send their children to school.
