The Minister of Information in Wau State has accused the former governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal of vandalizing state properties such as residential buildings within Wau town.

However, the former governor says it’s not true.

Bona Gaudensio alleges that the house of the Governor, which was used by Rizik Zachariah, was badly damaged before his transfer to the new state of Lol.

He said the damages include destruction of the roofs and office furniture in the governor’s office and that of the Ministry of Finance.

Mr Bona said they will initiate legal measures against the now governor of Lol State for the damages caused.

“We’ve formed a technical committee from the Ministry of Infrastructure to give us a report,” he said.

“This report will be submitted to the Council of Ministers and the state security committee which will then forward the case to the Public Attorney to take legal procedures.”

For his part, the governor of Lol State, Rizik Zachariah, dismissed the claims.

“This is all not true 100 percent, because when the President established the 28 states, I was appointed as governor of Lol State; I left the house – me and my family on 26th September 2015,” Governor Rizik explained to Eye Radio this morning.

Mr Zachariah said he handed the keys to the then state Secretary-General who later gave it to the new occupant, Governor Elias Waya.

“He handed over all the documents to his former deputy because he is from Wau State. After that, the former governor of Wau state, comrade Elias Waya took over,” he added.

“When he (Waya) moved in, he did not complain of anything, that Rizik destroyed or damaged the house.

“What they’re saying is false. I called the governor this morning regarding this issue because I want to know what their intention is. But until now he didn’t respond.”
