Violence affects Chukudum schools

Some residents of Chukudum, Namurnyang State, say insecurity has affected their children’s learning.

They say almost all schools operating in the town have been closed down.

This comes after an incident that left one policeman dead and 2 others wounded by suspected gunmen last week.

The State Director of Gender Equity and Inclusive Education, Opeka Opoka, says the closure of the schools will mostly affect candidates doing their final year.

“Most certainly it is going to affect them because the parents of these children have evacuated their places,” Mr Opoka said.

He urges the school administrators to find ways of helping the candidates for both primary and secondary education to continue with their studies.

However, he did not disclose the number of school children and teachers being affected by insecurity.
