Dr. Riek holds talks with Ugandan president, Museveni

The leader of the SPLM in Opposition, Dr. Riek Machar has met Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni to discuss the implementation of the peace agreement.

Uganda government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, twitted that the two leaders met in the Western region of the country yesterday, at a state lodge in Masindi district, about 210 km from Kampala.

It is not clear what the two discussed but Dr. Riek is expected to give a statement to the media in Kampala later today.

However, before he left Addis Ababa yesterday, he told reporters their discussion would include the recent decision of the government to split the ten states into 28.

The creation of more states remains one of the key issues that have delayed the formation of a transitional government of national unity.

The SPLM in Opposition says it is a violation of the peace agreement. But the government says it is a demand of the people and should not be reversed.

The chairman of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, Festus Gontebanye Mogae, had told the parties to negotiate the matter as a political, but not a legal matter.

The parties are yet to resolve the dispute.
