Author : | Published: Tuesday, April 28, 2015

IGAD says both the government and the SPLM in Opposition violated the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement in Unity and Jonglei States last month.

The Monitoring and Verification Mechanism says the violations took place within the last two weeks of March.

In a report, IGAD said one incident involved an ambush on government car between Rubkona town and Kilo 30. Two government soldiers were killed.

“A number of civilians from the camp were caught in the crossfire: two women were killed and 9 people injured,” read the report.

A week after the ambush, IGAD says government forces launched attacks on the SPLM in Opposition in Guit and Nhialdiu near Bentiu. A number of soldiers were reportedly killed.

IGAD says the SPLM in Opposition also attacked a government military site in Ayod County in Jonglei State. A number of casualties were confirmed from both sides.

The IGAD monitors have urged both parties to refrain from further offensive.
