At least one person has been killed by suspected rebel groups in Lakes state, state Minister of Information Dut Makoi has said.

Mr Makoi said the man was killed when rebels loyal to Dr. Riek Machar attacked Pagarau area, eastern Yirol County.

“They have taken some citizens from Awerial County and they are moving with a number of cattle,” revealed Mr Makoi. “They always kill and loot properties of civil population.”

He told Eye Radio that government troops have been deployed along the state boundaries to protect the civilian population in the state.

The information minister said the ceasefire agreement signed by the government and the SPLM/SPLA –in opposition in Addis Ababa needs to be widely spread to soldiers in the bush so that they are informed.
