Political parties support creation of 28 states

A group of political parties have urged the President not to withdraw the order splitting the ten states into 28.

At a press conference in Juba this morning, the parties said the creation of more states has been a demand of the people of South Sudan.

They called on the US, Troika, European Union, and IGAD to respect the decision of the President.

Last week, the members of the international community urged the President to reverse the decision.

But the parties say the diplomats were trying to play administrative roles in South Sudan.

“The Troika, EU, and other Embassies in South Sudan ought to concentrate on our bilateral and diplomatic relationship rather than have ambassadors purporting to have administrative role in South Sudan to the extent of ordering president of a sovereign UN member state to withdraw an administrative order,” Dr Martin Elia Lomoro, Chairman of the South Sudan Democratic Forum, spoke on behalf of the parties.

“This hurts the feeling of our people seeing their president being humiliated by order of ambassadors. Such practices never happen anywhere [else] in the world except in South Sudan where everybody in the world has authority over its administration.”

The diplomats have not commented on the matter. However, in a statement last week, they said the creation was against the peace agreement.

They said the split of states should wait until formation of a transitional government and after consultation with signatories to the peace deal.

The parties include National Congress Party,  United Democratic Salvation Front, National Justice Movement Party, United Democratic Salvation Front – Mainstream, Africa National Congress Party, Sudan Africa National Union, and South Sudan Democratic Forum led by Dr Lomoro.

Dr Lomoro is also serves as the Cabinet Affairs Minister in the current government.
