PLP calls for participation of Troika in peace talks

The People’s Liberal Party has called for the involvement of TROIKA countries in the next round of peace talks in Addis Ababa.

Recently, the government rejected more roles of TROIKA countries in the mediation process, saying they should remain as observers. These include the United States, Britain and Norway.

But the PLP says the involvement of Troika could lead to a quick solution to the crisis.

Peter Mayen is the Chairman.

“We want the participation of TROIKA in the mediating role because we do know that some IGAD countries are directly involved in the conflict,” said Mr Mayen.

“And their involvement has limited the peace process in one way or another. Learning from previous experience, we extremely demand that TROIKA has to participate so that the interest of those countries are minimized and managed.

“And as well, participation of the TROIKA will give weight to the talks beyond the regional weight, so that we are able to have very strong pressure on both warring parties.”
