Lawmakers representing Greater Pibor Administrative Area at the Transitional National Legislative Assembly have condemned the killing of Jebel Boma Commissioner and 14 others in a road ambush.

On 19th March 2024, Commissioner Jeremiah Korok was returning from one of the payams in a convoy – when he descended into an ambush staged by armed men.

The victims include the deputy Commander of Jebel Boma, Colonel Kaka Tumoruk.

MPs from Greater Pibor said they condemn the incident and call for an immediate investigation on the incident and to hold the perpetrators accountable.

“It is devastating to see innocent civilians lose their lives in such a senseless act of violence,” said Hon. Bonguot Amum Okiech while reading a statement to journalists in Juba on Wednesday.

“We strongly condemn this killing and call for Immediate Justice to be served to those responsible for this heinous crime.”

“We will not tolerate any form of violence or injustice in our community. We urge the government of South Sudan to take immediate action to investigate this incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their action.”

On Wednesday, the Deputy Chief of Greater Pibor, John Abula, said relative calm has returned to the area, adding that an investigation is ongoing.

Abula stated that most of the victims are local government officials including Payam and county administrators, while four other people sustained injuries and one of the attackers killed on spot.
