The Chairperson of Central Equatoria Women Union appeals to the government to sensitize women on political activities and the anticipated elections in December 2024.

Margret Apollo says few women have information about elections while many others are unaware of the democratic process.

She stated that it is important to sensitize women on their role during elections and the gender gap that they will leave if they do not participate.

“The reality is that most of us (women) are innocent on the elections. Even some do not know the meaning of the word elections and the importance,” he told Eye Radio in an Exclusive Interview in Juba on Wednesday.

“It should be a commitment to our government to sensitize the women so that they come out because we are the largest number in the population. Our percentage is bigger than what is assumed.”

“If they are not given that chance of sensitization, I am sure some will stay at home because they will say, what will I benefit from the elections and why should I bother?”

On her part, Cecilia Laku, Deputy Chairperson of CES Women Union, said it is only the women in government that know about the democratic process.

She encourages women in politics to visit the grassroots and encourage their fellow women to take part and contest for seats in the elections.

“Many women do not know elections but women in politics, government and women that have relations with government are the ones that know the benefits of elections.”

“That is why we as women in Central Equatoria need to know that we have responsibility in the upcoming elections so that we fulfil the 35% representation so that we help our sisters representing us up there and we lift them up.”
