Interior Minister Angelina Teny and her deputy Marial Gumke took an oath of office Monday after President Kiir appointed them through a decree on Tuesday, September 26.

Lakes State’s newly appointed Deputy Governor Dr. Isaiah Akol Mathiang was also sworn in during the ceremony administered by Chief Justice Chan Reec Madut.

Angelina, a senior SPLM-IO politician was first relieved as Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs in March 2023.

She was fired along with former interior minister, General Mahmoud Solomon after which President Kiir swapped the two security ministries between the SPLM and SPLM-IO.

Kiir, who officiated the oath ceremony, directed Minister Angelina and her deputy Gumke to work together in order to enable the institution to deliver on its mandate.

While First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar encouraged them to prepare a conducive environment for the conduct of elections in December 2024.

The two officials reportedly pledged to join hands and achieve the overall direction of the political leadership.
