Members of Parliament in Northern Bahr el Ghazal have impeached the state caretaker governor and the government chief whip.

The state Assembly Chairman of Information, Achak Thiep Thiep says the decision was made through a voting process in the parliament.

He says the charges leveled against the governor relates to a loan he acquired without the approval of the state assembly.

Mr. Thiep says Governor Kuel Aguer Kuel has also been accused of breaching the state constitution which limits the number of advisors in the state.

“The charges against the care taker governor are…violating our state constitution of Northern Bahr el Ghazal,” said Mr Thiep.

Meanwhile, the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Chief Whip, Benson Apoth says the governor had given the funds to the Ministry of Trade to buy supplies for the state.

He appealed to the national government to intervene in the situation.

“We are appealing to the national government to intervene and come and see the problem which has occurred in Northern Bahr el Ghazal,” Mr Apoth told Eye Radio.

“And also those documents; those documents should be taken to the high court to see all those allegations – is it true or not true? If it is not true, then the governor will be coming back as the caretaker governor because this thing is an allegation.”

Kuel Aguer Kuel was appointed caretaker Governor in April 2014.
