Floods: Mundri West expects poor harvest

Mundri West in Western Equatoria expects poor harvest this year because crops have been destroyed by rains, the county commissioner has said.

Mr. Lekson Mabruk told Eye Radio’s Dawn program this morning that most of the farms have been flooded.

He says that people in the county may face hunger this year because the harvest will be poor.

“The harvest will not be good unlike the past year because until now, farms are full of rainwater,” said Mr Mabruk.

“That means our harvest will not be okay. And because we are going to lack food, people will go to another area that has food and they will finish that food and people there will face hunger or famine this year.”

The commissioner said gardens for beans, which should have been harvested by this time, are flooded.

He says the constant rains have also destroyed houses for most of the farmers.
