Two brand new ferries meant to transport oil from the refineries in Unity State and other goods have been commissioned with Vice President Taban Deng Gai saying such investment will reduce the cost of electricity in Juba City.

The two barges belong to the Ezra Company.

The work to assemble the ferries with the capacity to carry 2000 tonnes began in 2020.

Speaking at the Juba River Port yesterday, the Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster said, the barges will help reduce the cost of electricity in Juba City.

“These barges mean a lot to Ezra company and the consumers in Juba town as they will be supplied with diesel which in the future will help to reduce the cost of the electricity in the city and will help in transporting goods”

Deng Gai adds that the boats will also benefit people in Malakal, Bor, Bentiu, Nassir, and Akobo.

“To those who know the importance of river transport especially people of Upper Nile, Malakal, Bor, Bentiu, Nassir, and Akobo, this has been part of their lives.”

“Many other investors are on the line and the Ministry of Transport is also coming because there will be Barges belonging to the government.”

On his part, the Minister of Transport, Madut Biar says, the barges facilitate the transportation of refined oil from Unity state.

“Our refinery in Unity State will be operational because now we have two  barges which can help to transfer the oil which is redundant there, that is why I call this a great achievement.”
