In Northern Liech State, authorities say it is now calm in Gezira area, after reports of fighting in the area between the government and the SPLM in Opposition forces since Sunday.

The state Deputy Governor, John Juor, said government forces have retained control of the area and accused the IO of the attacking.

On Monday, Dr Riek Machar’s spokesperson James Gadet denied the accusation.

Mr Juor told Eye Radio that the security situation is calm and residents are doing their normal daily activities.

“There were fighting in Gezira but now the IO evacuated it, and they ran towards the north,” he stated.

“There is no looting, no killing. The civilians are doing their normal activities; they are with their cattle; they are sitting at homes.”

Mr Juor also said some humanitarian agencies have evacuated their workers from Gezira area because of fear of further clashes.

These include the World Food Program and the Danish Refugee Council.
