Bad road: Travelers stranded on Awerial-Yirol road

Author : | Published: Thursday, September 18, 2014

A dozen people traveling to Yirol, Awerial center and Abunagok say they have been sleeping in a park for a week because the road to their respective places is impassable.

They urged the authorities to make sure the road linking the Payams with Mingkaman and Yirol County is passable.

Among the people who have spent a week in the park waiting for the vehicle to Yirol are women with young children and elderly people.

Some of the people said the floodwater has cut the road between the road linking Mingkaman town and Yirol.

They appealed to the county, state and national governments to solve the issue.

“My children are suffering a lot out in the open. It would be so nice for our government to solve the road issue immediately,” said a traveler.

“If the government of Awerial County does not have funds, why can’t it call the Juba government with UN there to come and repair the road?”

Roads are generally poor in the country. Conditions get worse during rainy season, crippling transport and business.
