Singer Lady Kola has been arrested after a lawyer filed a case against her over a trending song that is said to contain vulgar lyrics, a source has said.

Advocate Josephine Adhet says she has sued Kola over the song that allegedly promotes immorality without being censored on social media platforms.

The complainant said Kola was apprehended on Thursday and is expected to make her statement on Friday.

“I have filed a case against her. Actually, I realized after a week that there is a song spread all over social media like TikTok about Lady Kola,” she told Eye Radio.

The police case was reportedly filed under section 259, 251, 260 and 289 of the South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008.

The sections talk about regulating sales of obscene books and media contents.

Ms. Adhet claims that the singer’s latest track, which has gone viral on social media, is “not acceptable in society.”

“She sang a song describing the main private part, and all social media, mothers, and kids are there, and social media here in South Sudan is not restricted. You can find a 12-year-old or 11-year-old on TikTok and YouTube.”

The song in Juba Arabic titled “Small Girls” is said to have gone viral on all social media platforms with no parental advisory, as young people act it with dance moves.

“So after this song came out, everybody is singing that song, and it is not good when you look at it. And the parents are not advising their kids to desist from the content.”

“For me, it has come to my attention that I am a lawyer by profession, but this one concerns the image of South Sudan. That’s why I opened a case against her. She got arrested this evening and her statement will be taken tomorrow morning.”

Lady Kola’s representatives are yet to comment on the situation.

The transitional constitution [article 24 (2)] calls on all levels of government to guarantee the freedom of the press and other media as shall be regulated by law in a democratic society.

It also warns (3) that all media shall abide by professional ethics.
