The International Committee of the Red Cross says patients at a hospital in Kodok in Upper Nile State are in critical condition due to lack of medical staff.

The ICRC evacuated doctors last week due to insecurity.

Media spokesperson, Layal Horanieh, says only three medical assistants have remained in the health facility.

She told Eye Radio that the evacuation has affected services being offered to patients.

“Currently, there’s no surgical or post-operative expertise capacity in the hospital,” Ms Horanieh stated.

“Of the 70 staff, only three remained. All the three are medical assistants only.

“They are brave ones who stay behind but they are unfortunately unable to attend to important or dangerous surgical needs.”

Last week, the ICRC said 12 patients died in Kodok hospital due to lack of proper medical care. The hospital, in Fashoda County, receives between 500 and 700 patients per week.
